About me.
Charles is a Post-graduate Researcher (PhD) at Fera Science Ltd and Newcastle University. Charles is working to understand better how insect frass and insect farming can contribute to sustainable food security in the context of circular agriculture. Charles has a keen interest in novel developments in the growing insect bioconversion industry, and he loves all things Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens).
Currently, Charles is researching a project that integrates insect production with crop production in glasshouses and the field. Charles is also investigating the biocontrol potential of insect frass against a range of phytopathogens. His research interests lie in how frass from insect production for food and feed can impact the soil microbiome and plant growth, particularly how frass application can trigger systemic resistance against fungal phytopathogens such as Fusarium oxysporum and Verticillium dahliae.
Charles’s research journey has been guided by his supervisors.
